Charles Clayton Thompson, 62, of 4180 Salem Church Road, Denton, NC, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at his home. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Nance officiating. Burial will follow at North Bend Cemetery in Denton. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Chatham County, NC, Mr. Thompson was born November 15, 1948. He was the son of the late Colvin Clayton Thompson and Betty Lou Hill Thompson. He had worked for Klaussner Furniture Industries. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Thompson and his sister, Linda Marley. Mr. Thompson served in the US Army during Vietnam. Surviving are his daughter, Crystal Garren and husband, Jason, of the home; sister, Brenda Cockman and husband, Rick, of Ramseur; brothers, Billy Thompson and wife, Diane, of Liberty, Richard Thompson and wife, Tammy, of Boling Green, KY; aunts, Ruth Dixon, Lois Nance, both of Pittsboro; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Eleanor McDowell, Gwen Raven, and Hospice of Randolph.
