Charles C. Davis

September 8, 1933 — January 17, 2017

Charles Calvin Davis, 83, of Asheboro, son of Frank and Almedia Chrisco Davis, known by family and friends as Charlie, Uncle Ham and Cuz, passed away January 17, 2017 at Hospice Home at High Point in High Point. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Moffatt officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family invites you to join them for a celebration of his life following the service in the fellowship hall. He attended Sunset Avenue Church of God in Asheboro, the very church his mother was instrumental in forming when he was a young boy. After serving as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, Charlie returned home to Asheboro where he began his career at the Courier Tribune as an offset press operator. It was on that job, when he was asked by a staff photographer to help cover a Seagrove High School basketball game, that he met and fell in love with Dorothy "Dot" Honney, a star forward for the Lady Tigers. They were married on December 20, 1958. Charlie left the Courier Tribune to begin a new career as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Asheboro. Over the next 30 plus years he developed deep rooted friendships with coworkers, homeowners and yes, even a dog that faithfully walked part of his route with him. It was his sense of fellowship and service that carried over into his involvement with the Southwestern Randolph High School Boosters Club and his many years as a Hospice volunteer, both in caring for the needs of families as well as his involvement in the annual Hospice Auction. Alongside Charlie's love for Mama Dot, Sheila, Jeff, his sisters and extended family, he loved fishing, mining for gems, Seagrove pottery and Bob Timberlake Art. His love, compassion for others and ability to make people laugh will be widely remembered and greatly missed. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy Coleen Honney Davis in June of 2000. He is survived by sisters, Faye Smith of Coleridge, Nancy D. Jarrell (John Callahan) of Carrboro; daughter Shelia D. Livengood (Eddie) of Winston Salem; son Jeff Davis of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Savannah Livengood, Marcus Davis, Madison Davis and Charles Davis; nephew, Fred Smith (Roslyn) of Columbia, SC; nieces, Brenda Thomas (Wayne) of Asheboro, Katie Todd (Ed) of Coleridge; and nephew, D. Ted Honney of Charleston. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Home of High Point, 1803 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262, Randolph County Honor Guard, PO Box 1672, Asheboro, NC 27204, or Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 7811 Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd., Asheboro, NC 27205.
