Cecil Clay Gatlin, 79, of Asheboro, formerly of Seagrove, died Friday, April 19, 2019 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2019, at Maple Springs Baptist Church, Seagrove, with Pastor Bill Simpson, Pastor Howard McNeill and Dr. Bishop J. Harold Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Randolph County, NC, on June 15, 1939, Cecil was the son of the late Frank Fulton Gatlin and Lillie Emma Cox Gatlin. He was retired from Corporate Data Service. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church and attended Connected Bridges Outreach Ministry. He served in many capacities at Maple Springs including deacon, Sunday school teacher and softball coach. He was an avid Duke fan. Cecil also volunteered for the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and the Seagrove Christians United Outreach. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Cole Gatlin; sisters, Sue Brady, Bessie Deaton, Ruby Kiser; brothers, Eugene Gatlin, Colon Gatlin, David Gatlin and Recil Gatlin. Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Gatlin and wife Tee of Pittsboro; son, Stewart Ray Gatlin of Asheboro; "son" and caregiver, Johnny Covington of Asheboro; "daughter" and caregiver Kay Ferree; granddaughters, Makenzie Raines and husband Darren, Savannah Gatlin; several nieces and nephews; and his extended church families. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., Monday, prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Maple Springs Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 357, Seagrove, NC 27341. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Universal Healthcare and the Randolph County Senior Adults Association.
