Mrs. Carrie Marie Stanford Branning, 84, of Asheboro, NC, died Monday, November 10, 2014, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Grace Baptist Temple, where she was a member and Sunday school teacher, with Pastor Mark Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Onslow County, NC, Mrs. Branning was born August 25, 1930. She was the daughter of late Townsend Clement Stanford and Gertrude Mercer Stanford. She was the founder of the daycare center at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church which led to Fayetteville Street Christian School and was retired from Stedman's / Sara Lee. Faith was an extremely important part of her life. Carrie enjoyed gardening, bus trips and traveling. She had traveled to the 48 contiguous states, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Branning, son, Thomas Alvin Branning, and sisters, Julia Brown and Joan DeLong. Mrs. Branning is survived by her daughters, Deborah Cox and husband, Eddie, of Asheville, NC, Sharon Walker, of Grays Chapel, NC, Mary Branning, Joy Branning, both of Asheboro, NC; son, John Branning and Christina Foundation, of Dallas, TX; sister Helen Metts, of Durham, NC; brothers, Alvin Stanford, of Concord, NC; T.C. Stanford, of Durham, NC; grandchildren, John Branning, Jr., Sarah Lewis, Michael Branning, Jeff Cox, Brian Cox, Melody Gallimore, Michelle Walker, Bo Walker; 13 great grandchildren and her "grand-dogs", Chloe and Taylor. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday, November 14, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home.
