With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a remarkable soul, Carolyn Threatt Phillips of Asheboro NC, who left this world on May 11, 2025, at the age of 89.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Bailey's Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Harmon. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Born on March 3, 1936, in Newberry County, NC, to Gilbert Hough Threatt and Rose Bell Wilbanks Threatt, Carolyn dedicated her life to service, embodying the very spirit of Christ in all she did.
At just 12 years old, Carolyn met her true love, Donald Jerry Phillips Sr., at a roller-skating rink, igniting a partnership that would flourish throughout their lives. Known for her unwavering kindness and compassion, Carolyn’s warm hugs, bright smile, and steadfast love for her family, friends, and faith in Jesus were the hallmarks of her character. Her life was a testament to her selfless service, as she tirelessly gave of herself, whether providing wigs to cancer patients, visiting nursing homes, volunteering at church (Bible Truth Baptist), or spreading the Good News of Christ.
To have known her was to have experienced a love like no other. Her faith was the light by which she lived, and she never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with every person she met. Whether you were family, a friend, or a stranger she’d just met, she welcomed you into her world with a hug and showed you the kindness of God in every gentle gesture.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Jerry Phillips Sr., as well as her parents, Gilbert and Rose Threatt, her sister Lorraine Hall, and her cherished grandson, Michael Pallas.
She leaves behind her devoted daughters, Deborah Templeton, Teresa Carroll (Ken Carroll), and Lisa Justice (Kenneth Justice), along with her beloved son, Donald Phillips Jr. “Donny”. She is also survived by her siblings, Gilbert Threatt Jr., Naomi Threatt Proveaux, Faye Threatt Hopper, Steve Threatt, and James Threatt, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry her legacy: Kenneth Carroll Jr. “Kenny”, Donald Phillips III “Donny”, Devan Williams, James Phillips, Dustin Carroll, Misti Dettle, Bradley Phillips, Ashley Templeton, Amanda Templeton, Mindy Eglinton, Lindsey Carroll, in addition to 36 great-grandkids and 15 great-great-grandkids.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Carolyn’s memory by making a donation to the American Stroke Association or by continuing her mission of spreading Christ’s love through acts of kindness and generosity. A simple hug to a stranger in her memory would be a beautiful tribute to the legacy she leaves behind. May her spirit of love and service continue to shine bright through all of us.
