Carolyn Barnes

Carolyn Marie Denton Barnes, 82, of Asheboro, died Friday, January 15, 2021, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. A private service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Balfour Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Mason and Dr. Chuck Brawley officiating. Burial will be private at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Seagrove. The service will be recorded and available for viewing on Balfour Baptist Church's facebook page Tuesday afternoon. Born in Sylva, NC on December 22, 1938, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Roy Earl Denton and Irene Matthews Denton. She retired from Servco. Carolyn was a member of Balfour Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and helped with the senior adults. She enjoyed cooking, helping people and taking care of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Barnes; brother, Robert Denton; and sister, Edna Denton Walkingstick. Surviving are her children, Rebecca Brawley and husband Chuck, Diane Maier and husband Tom, Janet Elmore and husband Timmy, Teresa Cagle and husband Harvey, Jennifer Barnes Kojoori and husband Dean; 13 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203; or to Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7912 Union Grove Church Road, Seagrove, NC 27371.
