Bruce Allen Spencer, Sr., 91, of Asheboro, died Sunday, October 25, 2020 at his home at Lake Tillery. A private funeral service for family and close friends will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Dr. John Rogers, Rev. Mark Hall and Dr. Scotty Carpenter officiating. The service will be live streamed on Ridge Funeral Home's facebook page. Burial will follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born on October 7, 1929, in Randolph County, Bruce was the son of the late Lewis Taft Spencer and Lyda Jane Yow. He was a retired painter and renovator. He served in the US Army. Bruce was a long time member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a usher and volunteered when his professional service were needed by painting and hanging wallpaper. He also served on the homeowner association at Fairway Shores. He enjoyed hunting, shooting skeet, boating and being at the lake. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife, Blondell Chriscoe Spencer; son, Bruce Allen Spencer, Jr., sister, Shirley Stutts; and brothers, Marshall Ray "Hasty" Spencer and Taft Spencer, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Ann Spencer of the home; daughter-in-law, Melissa Williams Spencer of Asheboro; sisters, Pearlie Robbins of Asheboro, Lena Mae Anderson of Asheboro, Frances Lambert of Asheboro, Joann Frye and husband, Jennings of Randleman; grandchildren, Dana Spencer Ward and husband Jonathan of Asheboro, Amber Spencer Shiflet and husband Daniel of Hickory; great grandchildren, Gracie Ward, Carly Ward, Ryland Ward, Jett Ward, Rowen Shiflet and Levi Shiflet. The body will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959; Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203, or to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 133 N. Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
