Florence "Bonnie" Rich Redding, of Asheboro, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 31st, 2024 at Randolph Hospice House.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp, Rev. Arnold Luther and Rev. Mark Beane officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Bonnie was born November 9th, 1928, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late John E. Rich Sr. and Essie Vaden Rich. A life-long resident of Asheboro, NC, Bonnie was known by all family and friends as a loving servant of Christ who prayed without ceasing for all those God laid on her heart. People all around Randolph County knew Bonnie as an avid baker, traditionally baking dozens of sugar and Moravian cookies at holiday times. Chocolate candies, pound cakes, and chocolate meringue pies were among her specialties. Hand making biscuits, measuring only by heart, she impacted the lives of innumerable children who she kept in her home for over 35 years, impressing upon them the importance of leading lives that glorified God. It blessed her heart to warm people's lives with the meals she cooked for them. She never wanted anyone to go hungry and offered seconds and thirds to those who enjoyed a meal in her home. She loved, served, and cared for others unconditionally and nursed many family members in times of need. In her later years, Bonnie spent time reading and reciting scripture, praying, and enjoying time with her family members and care takers. She loved playing dominoes, completing word finds, and bird watching.
For most of her life she was a devoted member of Central Wesleyan Church, Bonnie taught many children in Sunday school, provided snacks for Vacation Bible School, and shared smiles, food, and stories of God's faithfulness in her life with her church family. Later in life, she was a member of Neighbor's Grove Wesleyan Church. Worshiping with her fellow church members was one of the most important things in Bonnie's life and she always encouraged her family and friends to worship alongside her.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Lewis Redding, son John Wesley Redding, sisters Dorothy Krites, Reba Bowman, Ella "Ann" Jones, brothers John E. Rich Jr., and Rufus Rich.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Smith (Jeff) of Asheboro, granddaughters Stephanie Hayes (Eric) of Durham, Rebecca Smith of Holly Springs, daughter-in-law Patricia Redding of North Myrtle Beach, and honorary children, nephew Dennis Rich (Pat) of Asheboro and niece Donna Staley (Milton) of Randleman. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro.
Special thanks to all those at Randolph Hospice House that made her last days comfortable and to her care givers at home, Elizabeth Guzman and Mandy Phelps.
