Wilton Lee "Bill" Turner, 89, of Asheboro, died Monday, August 21, 2017 at Carillon Assisted Living in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Born May 24, 1928 in Wayne County, Mr. Turner was the son of the late Samuel and Beulah Turner. He was a member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church and was instrumental in founding Bailey's Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Turner had worked as a grocery store assistant manager at Colonial Stores. He served as crossing guard at Lindley Park Elementary and will be remembered by local students as "Mr. Bill". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louetta Thompson Turner; brother, James Oliver Turner; and son, Frederick Eugene Turner. Survivors include his daughters, Delores Turner of Asheboro, Crystal Turner Hughes and husband, Thomas "Bo" of Asheboro; son, Sammy Lee Turner and wife, Oly of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter-in-law, Susan Turner of Asheboro; sister, Rachel Turner Brady and husband, Roger of Siler City; brothers, Walter Lee Turner and Charles Lester Turner and wife, Florence, all of Siler City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gene Turner, Jr., Missy Wright, Jennifer Simms, Steven Turner, Justin Turner, Olivia Turner and Tracy Turner; 10 great-grandchildren, including Tyler Simms, Olivia Simms, Jacob Hogan, Marli Hogan and Justin Turner, who were very close to his heart; and several step great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Becky Johnson and the staff of Carillon Assisted Living for the excellent care given to Mr. Turner.
