Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty"� Niskala Casper, 74, of Asheboro, NC, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, April 22, 2012, at St John's Lutheran Church with Rev. O. Ralph Kraft, Jr. officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a gathering held at the fellowship hall. A native of Cleveland, OH, Mrs. Casper was born September 17, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Arne Matthew Niskala and Johanna Haili Niskala. She was a wife to Jack and mother to 3 children. She and Jack just celebrated 55 years of marriage. Betty, known for her patience and infectious smile, was a community servant and extended her love and kindness to everyone that she met. Her gentle, kind spirit will forever be ingrained in the hearts of her friends and family. She was a member and secretary at St. John's Lutheran Church for over 40 years. Betty was an incredible woman who took on many different roles and her involvement made a huge impact in the community. Some of these tasks included: being a Randolph County Water Safety Instructor, Girl Scout leader for many years, "foster"� mom to many four-legged friends, avid bowler, and horseback riding instructor to many members of the community. Mrs. Casper is survived by her husband, John A. "Jack"� Casper, of the home; daughters, Carol Casper Bourke and husband, Steve, of Asheville, Dianna Casper and Lee Ward, of Asheboro; son John M. Casper and wife, Monica, of Charlotte; brother, Richard Niskala and wife, Marena, of Brunswick, OH; grandchildren, Anthony and Lindsay Casper, of Charlotte, Bill Bourke and wife, Monica, of Mooresville, Christy Granger and husband, Derek, of Mooresville, Wesley Bourke and wife, Chelsea, of Asheville; great grandchildren, Madison, Seth and Cayden Bourke. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 505 S. Park Street, Asheboro, NC 27203; or to the Humane Society of Randolph County, P.O. Box 4384, Asheboro, NC 27204.
