Mrs. Audrey Mae Ainsley Cahoon, 73, of Asheboro, NC, formerly of Gum Neck Landing, NC, died Friday, February 3, 2012, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Audrey was born in Washington County, NC on December 27, 1938 to Gillard and Sally Ainsley. She was married to Daniel Marvin Cahoon, who preceded her in death in April, 2009, for over 55 years. Audrey's life was one dedicated to being a loving and caring military wife, mother and grandmother. She never stopped beaming when talking about her family. Surviving children are Vickie C. Gordon and husband, Dr. Bob W. Gordon, of Asheboro, NC, Rex B. Cahoon and wife, Debbie, of Gloucester, VA, Richard R. Cahoon and wife, Tammy, of Hampton, VA, Daniel C. Cahoon, of Linwood, PA. Other surviving family members include sisters, Dora Sfetsos, of Williamston, NC, Barbara A. Smith, of Merry Hill, NC, Ruth A. Holadia, of Virginia Beach, VA, Juanita G. Johnson, of Elizabeth City, NC, and Joyce "Rose" Baker, of Rocky Hop, NC. Brother Gillard "Larry" Ainsley of Camden, NC also survives. Preceding Audrey in death was sister, Margie R. Etheridge and brother, Roger Ainsley. Audrey is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud. Audrey was a member of Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church and requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the church, c/o Mr. Gerald Perry, B 2775 McCaskey Road, Williamston, NC 27892. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Bryan Funeral Service Chapel in Columbia, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service.
