Catherine Arzelle Lyons Hoos Brock, 85, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at her home.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Dr. David Burroughs officiating.
Arzelle was born on March 30, 1941, in Mecklenburg County, the daughter of the late Ralph Elbert Lyons and Ruia Jane Mast Lyons. She graduated from Harry P. Harding High School in Charlotte. In 1978, Arzelle moved from Greensboro to Asheboro, where she and her late husband, Herbert Hoos, opened the Sir Robert Restaurant. Over the years, they went on to own and operate several restaurants, including Herbert’s in Greensboro and Asheboro, Landmark Grill, and the Gingerbread House. She loved working at the restuarants where she met so many wonderful people. Arzelle had a genuine passion for people and enjoyed getting to know them and talking with them on a regular basis. Alongside her work in the restaurant business, Arzelle also worked at Wachovia Bank. Following her retirement, she continued serving her community through her work with the Randolph County Board of Elections.
Arzelle enjoyed gardening, dancing, especially shag dancing, traveling to the beach and to Europe; and making special memories with her grandchildren. She and her husband, R.C., also loved traveling throughout North Carolina, especially to the mountains. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was an active member of Ashley Heights Baptist Church in Aberdeen, where she served as the financial officer and helped prepare breakfast before Sunday services. Arzelle will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, love of family, devotion to her church, and the many lives she touched throughout the years.
In addition to her parents and husband, Herbert Hoos, Arzelle was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Melton.
She is survived by her husband, R. C. Brock of the home; daughters, Dee Anderson (Craig) of Hillsborough, Gigi Rogers of Asheboro; son, Herbie Hoos (Carolyn) of East Stroudsburg, PA; sisters, Donna Setzer (Joe) of Lincolnton, NC, Judy Walker of North Wilkesboro; brother, Sanford Lyons (Norma) of GA; stepchildren, Charlie Brock, Rhonda Lee, Matthew Brock, Andrew Brock, Phillip Brock; grandchildren, Rose Lopez, Robbie Golien, Hannah Esteban (Emilio); great grandchildren, Lillian Lopez, Eric Lopez, Vanessa Lopez, Jackeline Lopez, Miranda Morales, Noah Esteban, Liam Esteban; great-great grandchild, Valentina Lopez; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m., at Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203, or to CurePSP, 325 Hudson St. 4th floor, New York, NY 10013.
