Arthur Washington "A.W."� McElhannon, Sr., 80, of 4230 Plum Tree Road, Climax, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at his home. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Gray's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born in Randolph County, on July 4, 1930, Mr. McElhannon was the son of the late Clifford and Jewel McElhannon. He was retired from Burlington Industries and was a former Deputy Sheriff for Randolph County. In addition to his parents, Mr. McElhannon was preceded in death by his daughter, Jerra Gessner and his sister, Joan Kersey. Surviving are his wife, Mona McElhannon, of the home; daughters, Millie Simmons and husband, George, of High Point, Bonnie King, of Archdale, Jill Joyce and husband, Karl, of Climax; sons, Arthur "Rocky"� McElhannon, Jr., and wife, Mary, of Charlotte, Jeff Routh and wife, Kelley, of Pleasant Garden; grandchildren, Rodney, Jason, Alyssa, Aaren, Matthew, Lindsey, Amy, Jennifer, Matthew, Melissa, Tess, Ben, Devin; and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317; or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summitt Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
