On the morning of May 22, 2018, Andrea "Andi" Upton Lawson passed away at the age of 64 resting peacefully in hospice care in Everett, Washington after battling cancer for over two years. Andi was born February 22, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Andy and Helen Upton. After growing up in Greenhills, Ohio and Dallas, Texas, Andi married Hugh Deryck Lawson in Dallas on June 24, 1972. Exploring the world in their youth, Andi and Hugh gave birth to two children, Rebecca Jean and Daniel Deryck, and eventually settled in Asheboro, North Carolina, in 1979. Throughout her life, Andi was happiest being with her family, engaged in work, tending to pets and gardens at home, and in fellowship with members of the church and community seeking spiritual enlightenment and comfort. Andi spent more than 15 years working in account services with several companies in and around the Asheboro area. Approaching the rambunctious age of 50, Andi decided to switch careers, enrolling in the Nuclear Medicine Technology program at Forsythe Technical Community College, ultimately spending the next decade as a Nuke Med Tech traveling across North Carolina to provide her original style of comfort, care, and friendship to patients and coworkers throughout. Beyond the love of her family and friends, Andi's life will be marked and remembered by her boundless love of the Lord and her desire to share in that with those around her. Especially later in life, Andi was very active in volunteer and mission work that took her on journeys that ranged from halfway around the world, to the hearts and living rooms of many in her beloved home town. Andi is survived by her husband, her two children, her two sisters Karen Toombs and Beth Gordon, her two grandchildren Josh and Caleb, and host of other family and dear friends scattered widely across the country and beyond, all who will miss her dearly. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Asheboro, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Mission Asheboro Fund, 133 N. Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
