Alton Jernigan

Mr. Alton Jernigan, 83, of Asheboro, NC, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at his home. A funeral service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Neighbor's Grove Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Matt Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Robeson County, NC, Mr. Jernigan was born August 10, 1927. He was the son of the late Julius Hilton Jernigan and Nora Elizabeth Davis Jernigan. He was retired from J. P. Stevens and was a charter member of Open Door Baptist Church. Mr. Jernigan is survived by his wife, Frances Jernigan, of the home; daughters, Ann Sikes, of the home, Faye Gaster and husband, Tommy, of Ramseur, NC; sons, Benny Jernigan and wife, Sandra, of Asheboro, NC, Carl Jernigan, of the home; grandchildren, Michael Gaster and wife, Sherry, Charles Sikes and wife, Sharon, Leslie Albright and husband, Timmy, Carla Ridgill and husband, Jason, Jon Jernigan and wife, Michelle; seven great grandchildren; brothers, J. C. Jernigan, of Darlington, SC, Edward Jernigan and wife, Dora, of Ramseur, NC, Rev. Curtis Jernigan, of Marion, NC; sisters, Edith Smith, of Asheboro, NC, Ester Jernigan, of Ramseur, NC, Lois Hopper, of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
