Alicea Cheek Barnwell

Alicea Jean Cheek Barnwell, 62, of Asheboro, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at her home. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Doug Hefner officiating. A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Barnwell was born September 20, 1954. She graduated from Asheboro High School in 1972 and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Barnwell took care of the elderly, working as a LPN. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she loved her pets. Mrs. Barnwell is survived by her husband, Harrell Wayne Barnwell of the home; sons, Chris Walker and wife, Debbie, and Scott Walker and wife, Jill, all of Asheboro; stepson, Michael Barnwell of Burlington; stepdaughter, Alex Cox and husband, Jeff of Yanceyville; parents, Marvin and Hilde Cheek of Asheboro; brother, Doug Cheek and wife, Sharon of Asheboro; grandchildren, Cody Walker, Kaitlyn Walker, Caleb Walker, Camden Walker; step-grandchildren, Benji Cox, William Cox, Michael Cox; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, Megan Cheek and Tiffany Hulin. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 505 S. Park St., Asheboro, NC 27203 or to Randolph County SPCA, 300 W. Bailey St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
