Alice Rachel Williams, 100, passed away at Randolph Hospice House on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at West Asheboro Church of God with Bishop Travis Cooke and Rev. Mike Woolard officiating. Burial will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro.
Mrs. Williams was born January 10, 1924, in Matewan, West Virginia, to Edgar and Mamie Comer Robbins. At the age of 5, her family relocated to High Point, NC, where she resided until moving to Asheboro and meeting her husband, David L. Williams, to whom she was married for 70 years, and preceded her in death in 2011.
Mrs. Williams was a devout Christian in the Pentecostal faith. She was a faithful and a charter member of the West Asheboro Church of God. She loved reading and talking about the Bible. She loved to worship while listening and singing to her favorite gospel music throughout the day.
Mrs. Williams worked many years at Acme-McCrary Hosiery Mill and Klaussner Furniture. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her family and friends. She was a “from scratch” southern cook and could have a hot meal on the table in record time. Some of the family favorites were homemade biscuits with corn, potato salad, pound cake, and oatmeal cookies for her grandchildren. She would spend tireless hours in the kitchen canning, pickling and freezing vegetables/fruits to have on hand each year. Mrs. Williams often spoke of her love for people. She was known in the community as one of the hardest working women they knew.
Mrs. Williams was also preceded in death by her brothers, Rev. Loyd Robbins, Rev. Lester Robbins, Rev. Coolidge Robbins, Rev. Homer Robbins, Rev. Albion Robbins and sisters, Ruby Harper and Ruth Johnson.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, David N. Williams of Martinez, Georgia, Patsy Yow (Ronald), of Asheboro, Sheila Pardo (Michael) of Fairfax, VA, and Gregory Williams (Meghan) of Asheboro. Affectionately known as “Granny” by her grandchildren, Shannon Shetrone, Kimberly Yow, Kelley Keith, Jerry Yow, Christian Johnson, Meredith Monica, Andrew Johnson, Charlie Moore, Chadwick Williams, Kaitlyn Williams, Chase Williams; step grandchildren, Claire Pardo and Kyle Pardo. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Rachel dearly. The unwavering prayers for her family throughout her life continue as reminders of her presence and love in the lives of her family. There will be a tremendous void in our lives.
Mrs. Williams’ family is deeply grateful to her compassionate caregivers, Joan, April, Treann, and Larissa; and Hospice of Randolph, who have lovingly and patiently cared for her during this time.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Randolph, 314 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203; or to West Asheboro Church of God, 197 Lewallen Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
