Alden "Spike" Mahler

Mr. Alden Robert "Spike" Mahler, 66, of Asheboro, died Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 6:00 pm Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. O. Ralph Kraft officiating. A native of Buena Vista County, IA, Mr. Mahler was born January 19, 1944. He was the son of the late Elmer Mahler and Waldina Louise Buckendahl Mahler. He was retired from Heidelberg, USA, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council, Witness Committee and he was always helpful with computer problems. He enjoyed watching racing, fishing and he was a member of the Izaak Walton League. He helped organize the Kansas Scottish Highland Games. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mahler was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacey Deanne Mahler, and his biological father, Alden Lowell Hayes. During Vietnam, Mr. Mahler served in the US Navy and he was stationed in Scotland. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #19 in Gardner, Kansas, and was a Boy Scout Leader. Mr. Mahler is survived by his wife, Judy Mahler, of the home; daughter, Kellie E. Mahler, of Springfield, MO; son, Jay C. Kemble and fiancée, Christina Butler, of Overland Park, KS; sisters, Doris Scharton, of Aurelia, IA, Joanne Pitts and husband, Jerry, of Fontanelle, IA; brothers, Robert Mahler and wife, Beverly, of Cherokee, IA , Herb Mahler and wife, Teri, Leroy Mahler, Larry Mahler and wife, Marilyn, all of Sac City, IA; several half-brothers and half-sisters including half-sister, Seyah Varner, of High Point, NC, grandsons, Victor York, Austin Reyes Mahler; aunts, Rosalyn Puhrman, Selma Rice; uncle, Herb Buckendahl and wife, Margaret. The family will receive friends following the service until 9:00 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 505 S.
