Mrs. Adela Cruz del Carmen Altamirano, 73, of Asheboro, NC, died Saturday, November 8, 2014, at her home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Monday, November 10, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a funeral mass to follow at 5:00 pm Monday. Father Philip Kollithanath will be officiating. Burial will be held in Quito, Ecuador. A native of Quito, Ecuador, Mrs. Altamirano was born May 3, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Manuel Altamirano and Victoria Castillo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an amazing woman, wonderful home chef and a caring and generous person. She was upbeat, positive and had a great sense of humor. Adela enjoyed gardening, knitting and doing crafts. What she loved the most was sharing time with her family. Mrs. Altamirano is survived by her husband, Cesar Melo, of Asheboro, NC; daughters, Jacqueline Vruwink and husband, Henry, of Asheboro, NC, Paulina Gigliotti and husband, Robert, of Asheboro, Veronica Ibarra and husband, Alejandro, of Quito, Ecuador; son, Dr. Cedar Melo, of Quito, Ecuador; sister, Isabel Altamirano, of Quito, Ecuador; brother, Manuel Altamirano, of Quito, Ecuador; grandchildren, David, Andrea, Estefany, Daniela, Karla, Paula; and great grandchild, Emilo.
