Ralph Evans

Mr. Ralph Evans, Jr., 68, of Asheboro, NC, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his residence. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor David Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Asheboro. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Evans was born January 26, 1946. He was the son of Lillian Evans and Ralph Evans, Sr. He was a loving father, son, brother and grandfather. He worked in food service at Randolph Hospital for fourteen years and also worked for The Courier-Tribune for twelve years as a newspaper carrier. Mr. Evans was an "easy-going" man who had a great sense of humor and a great love for children and grandchildren. He was compassionate, loving and caring. In his free time, his hobbies included playing cards, scrambles and chess. In his younger days he was a basketball player. Mr. Evans, in addition to his parents, is survived by daughters, Tamekia Smith, of Asheboro, NC, Dayqueena Smith of Augusta, GA, Shyanna Herb, of Augusta, GA; son, Zafir Salaam, of Baltimore, MD; sister, Zandria Evans, of Brooklyn, NY, and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tamekia Smith, 327 North Elm Street, Asheboro.
